My rabbit thumps and struggles when picked up. Can it still be groomed?

Often yes, and it changes how. A rabbit that objects to being lifted is frequently groomed on a surface at its own level instead, with support underneath and no attempt to hold it up. Struggling is not just resistance in a rabbit, it is how spinal injuries happen, so it is taken seriously.

Is rabbit fur ever cut short?

Only when there is a reason, such as mats or a soiled hygiene area, and then with scissors or clippers held flat against very fragile skin. A rabbit's coat is not styled. Cutting one back for appearance would remove protection it needs and risks nicking skin that tears easily.

How much extra grooming does a molt need?

Considerably more, and it is the main reason to book. Rabbits swallow the loose fur they groom off themselves, and unlike a cat they cannot vomit it back up. Getting dead coat off during a heavy molt is genuinely preventive rather than cosmetic.

When does something become a vet job rather than a grooming one?

Sooner than owners expect. A rabbit that has stopped eating, is producing fewer or smaller droppings, has urine scald, has sores, or has any flystrike sign needs a rabbit-savvy vet urgently, not an appointment with us. We will say so immediately if we see it.

How long does a rabbit visit take?

Short, deliberately. Considerably less than a dog groom. Brushing out a molting long-coated rabbit is the longest version of it, while a nail check and hygiene inspection is quicker again. What sets the length is the rabbit's tolerance rather than a task list, and we stop when it has had enough.
