What is de-shedding, exactly?
Two things working together. High-velocity air pushes dead undercoat up and out of the standing coat, then an undercoat rake and brush clear it away. Nothing is cut. The dog keeps its coat length and loses the loose fur that was going to end up on your floors.
How often is it worth doing?
Most double-coated dogs benefit every couple of months, more often through a heavy seasonal shed. Air conditioning muddles the natural cycle here, so many Keys dogs shed year-round rather than in two clear bursts. We will suggest an interval from what comes out.
Does it hurt?
Not when it is done on a coat that is genuinely shedding. It should feel like a firm brush. What does hurt is raking at a matted coat, so if the fur has already knotted, this is the wrong booking and we will tell you the coat needs clearing first.
